The Barcelona Trader
I’m Mike McCready—aka The Barcelona Trader.
My path here wasn’t exactly a straight line.
Before becoming The Barcelona Trader, I helped bring global events like the MTV Europe Music Awards to Barcelona, built a cult-status Catalan watch brand, and launched Polyphonic HMI—the music tech company that predicted hit songs and made headlines from The New York Times to The New Yorker. That work led to a Harvard Business School case study and an eventual Nasdaq landing.
Later, I built Music Xray, a platform that used data to connect hundreds of thousands of independent artists with music industry pros. It was acquired in early 2025.
Along the way, I learned to trade. The hard way.
I blew accounts. Rebuilt. Studied. Fell on my face. Got back up. And somewhere in that fire, I found my footing.
The Barcelona Trader isn’t just a website I started. It’s me. It’s my second act, and it is where I show up every day—to trade, to teach, and to keep it honest. No hype. Just discipline, clarity, and a plan that tells the truth.
If you’re ready to become the trader you know you can be—welcome. I’ve probably made every mistake you’re afraid of. And I’m still standing.

My Mission
Let’s be clear: I’m not here to teach everyone how to trade.
There are already too many people with this skill who use it to isolate themselves, fund bunker-world ideologies, or reinforce some fantasy of self-reliance that forgets we live in a society.
I’m building this for people who want to use the skill well.
People who:
Want financial independence, not social disconnection
Want freedom, but not at the expense of others
Want power, but carry it with discipline and empathy.
I’m teaching on YouTube. I run a Zoom Room. We’ve built GoldGPT so people can learn in their own way, at their own pace.
I don’t screen people by politics or put anyone through a purity test.
But I make no secret of where I stand.
I believe in democracy.
I believe in truth.
I believe in shared responsibility.
And I believe the threat posed by far-right authoritarianism is real—and getting louder.
So yes—anyone can join. But I’m building this for people who want to trade with purpose, not paranoia.
People who want to use this superpower to build something, not burn it all down.
Why the World Trades Gold (And Why We Do Too)
Gold is a funny thing. It has no earnings, no dividends, no quarterly reports. You can’t eat it, and it’s not especially useful for modern industrial processes. But somehow, it still commands the attention of central banks, hedge funds, sovereign wealth managers, and your cousin Dave who owns “a little physical, just in case.”
The reason is simple: gold is trust on a chain. It’s the asset that steps in when fiat feels fragile, when bonds look shaky, or when the geopolitical tea leaves start swirling in unpredictable ways. It doesn’t promise yield — it promises stability. And in a world increasingly short on that, gold gets traded. A lot. Read more.

The Gold Market Isn’t a Fair Fight — And That’s Exactly Why We Trade It
I used to think the gold market was a dignified place — a realm where central banks, jewelers, and bullion dealers transacted based on genuine supply and demand. A place where price moved because someone needed to hedge, deliver, or diversify.
How quaint.
Then I started trading it.
What I discovered is that beneath the polished veneer of the gold market lies a battleground teeming with sharks, spoofers, and algorithmic predators. It’s less of a serene exchange and more of a high-stakes poker game — except the house has a PhD in behavioral finance and an army of bots sniffing out retail fear like blood in the water. Read more.
How We Describe Our Edge
There are a million ways to trade—and that’s not just a cute exaggeration. It’s the reason most new traders feel like their brain is melting by week three on YouTube. One guru says never trade the news, the next one trades only the news. One says let your winners run, the next says take profit fast and often. And you, poor sponge-brained padawan, are left trying to combine ten conflicting ideologies into one Franken-strategy that would make even Frankenstein say, “Even me know that not right.”
The truth is, most trading advice isn’t wrong—it’s just context-dependent. One person’s “always use a stop-loss” rule makes perfect sense if they’re swing trading equities, while someone scalping gold on a 10-second chart with a fast finger and nerves of steel might not use stops at all (hi, it’s me). Even within scalping, there are dozens of styles. Some fade extremes. Some chase momentum. Some snipe breakouts. Some hedge. Some pray. So when you’re learning, the danger isn’t misinformation—it’s misalignment. That’s why the real unlock is to stop trying to learn everything, and instead commit to one thing. One strategy. One system. One mentor. Focus until mastery. Then tweak. Because confusion isn’t a signal that you’re not smart enough. It’s a signal that you’re standing in the middle of ten lanes of traffic trying to drive all the cars at once.

My and Tono’s edge is built on precision entries and exits using a tick-driven Renko chart layered over high-probability inflection zones (pivots, points of control, etc.). We pair this with disciplined scalping rules, an intuitive read of price behavior, and Tono’s proven hedge strategy to stay in the trade when others get blown out.
We scale this system across multiple accounts without increasing per-trade risk. It’s not just about seeing the opportunity—it’s about surviving long enough to realize it.
For Gold Futures, we simply replace the hedging strategy with the Hot Stove Exit.

It might sound complicated, but once it clicks, it’s like learning to ride a bike—with a turbo engine and no training wheels. What sets our style apart? We’re not out here chasing polite little 2% or 5% gains like it’s a savings account. We’re showing you how we withdraw 70%, 80%, even 100% of our account size monthly. That’s withdraw, not compound—don’t get cute. We’re not defying the laws of mathematics here—we’re riding a caffeinated bull, yanking the cash straight out of its saddlebags, and diving off before it remembers we’re not supposed to be there.
